URBAN MOBILITY & CYCLING CULTURE

Applying effective storytelling to reveal issues in urban planning, and showcasing characeristics of Dutch cycling culture

These photo series and short-format videos were initiated independently by me, and later published by Dutch newspaper Het Parool  in print, online articles, and social media reels. By closely observing everyday situations in the city, this work draws attention to complexities, patterns and details in urban infrastructure and cycling culture in The Netherlands.

My Role

︎Identifying patterns in urban environment, translating them into visual narratives
︎Using consistency and a bit of humour, to reveal issues in city planning or characteristic aspects of the cycling culture
︎Identifying story angles for print and online publications in Dutch media

Results

︎Featured in multiple publications in Het Parool, in print, online and socials, reaching a wide local audience that use engages with this urban space daily
︎The recurring flooding point affecting cyclists, was resolved by the municipality soon after the publication
︎Social media reels reaching millions of views, bringing widespread attention to the Dutch cycling culture
